The scoring screen finally survives a projector
Got the scoring screen working on a projector at 1080p. This sounds like nothing and took two evenings, because a function-room projector is not a monitor: it is a monitor with the contrast turned down, viewed from forty feet, by people holding drinks.
What changed: everything went up two steps on the type scale, the team colours got a shape as well as a hue, and the row separators went from hairlines to something you can actually see from the back.
--score-name: 32px -> 54px
--score-value: 40px -> 76px
--row-rule: 1px -> 3px
Phones still lag about a second behind on the reveal. I suspect the websocket fan-out rather than the render, because the lag scales with the number of connected phones and not with the complexity of the question. Next evening’s job.
Follow-up
It was the fan-out. Batching the reveal broadcast dropped it to about 120ms, which nobody notices.
